LILJA/VALONTUOJA (light bringer)

Here is a sonic journey that took it's form on the same time period and with the similar mindset as LILJA/KUUSILMÄ album was completed. Two riffs are written by Vardøger and they originally appear on the same titled song by Sarastus. At the first time when I heard these riffs, I felt that they held a tight connection to my older riffs (written over 10 years ago). It was like Vardøger's riffs resonated with the echoes from my past and together they started to take a new form. During and after this invocation, things just flowed naturally and effortlessly.

This sonic journey should not be seen as a cover or tribute "song". Lyrics, atmosphere, sound, arrangement, performers...etc are very different. Also the vision and sources of inspiration seem to be different. Both "songs" are individual pieces. However like all puzzles, they also share some elements together.

It was clear from the beginning that this recording has to be released on the midsummer night (summer solstice / Litha). Around the Arctic Circle, nights near the midsummer day are short or non-existent. It's also the point where the days are getting darker again and the nature starts preparing for the new winter.

The atmosphere around the midsummer night is similar with the recording. In this white night, all kinds of magic is almost tangible: high flames of the bonfires are dancing wildly, mystical will-o'-the-wisps are calling in the woods and the beautiful naked maidens are bending over a well in order to see their future lover's reflection.

Another existence is not only a dream.
It's present, alive and partly unhidden.
